Video of the day: Europe Day 39We are safe and secure at the Kolping Campus Krems, Austria.
We left the campground under threatening skies and the rain held off until about 11 am.
We were genuinely surprised when we reached the town of Ybbs. We thought it would just be another quaint little town with cute houses but it turned out to have lots of big imposing structures. Some of these structures date back to 900 AD. Link to Ybbs here .
After Ybbs, we reached Melk another impressive town well worth a full day’s visit. What immediately strikes you is the Melk Benedictine Monastery. See more stuff on Melk here .

It did not rain nearly as much as predicted but it was dark and cloudy. It was raincoat on then raincoat off and back on again.
What saved the second half of the day is once we had reached Spitz (home of the odd looking ferry) the route took us away from the Danube and we got ride inland a bit.
I would call it the “Vineyard Trail”. Seems every farmer here grows grapes and each village is geared to selling wine to river boat tourists. Watch Hélène’s video.
Tonight we are in a university residence and are eagerly planning our coming arrival in Vienna and terminating Part 2(EuroVelo 6) of our adventure.
