71.6 km - Total so far 2,724.90 km - Route pedalled. Relive Video (with pictures)
Video of the day: Europe Day 49We are safe and secure in Székesfehérvár (SZFV for short).
Hélène planned today’s route using the Sultans Trail bicycle route guide book - Part 1. This enabled the identification of specific points of interest (POIs) in the various villages. It was a welcomed enhancement to the day’s ride.
We had a bit more elevation today than we had on most days. It was all good except for that bit within my usual 10 km warm up. See video.
We rode 6 to 8 kms on a 80 kph road without any issues or concerns. Vehicles always gave us more than 2 metres when passing. When it is safe to pass, the vehicles driver side wheels cross the median white line (solid or broken) and back again when they are passed us. Large trucks, tractor trailers and buses usually cross in the other lane. This is probably why vehicles stay away from us in Hungary.
In Hungary, if you hit a cyclist, the driver is generally held responsible for damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage. Cyclists are considered the weaker party in road traffic and receive special protection under Hungarian law. The driver's insurance is liable for compensating the cyclist. If the cyclist is injured, they can claim compensation for their injuries, including personal injury damages, which depend on the severity of the injury.
Not related to cycling per say but we were surprised to find that cold and hot water are reversed in Hungary.
Okay, I have said enough. Enjoy Hélène’s video. Try to pronounce “ Székesfehérvár" Google Translate can help. We asked the waiter to help but we are both hopeless with it.
Tomorrow we are off to Simontornya. We are taking advantage of this great weather and not taking a day off after 6 days of riding. We also are trying to increase the weekly kilometres to build up kilometres in the bank.
