Video of the day: Europe Day 48We are safe and secure in Érd, Hungary.
The plan today was to cycle to and through Budapest on EuroVélo 6 and follow through to Érd on the Sultans Trail.
We left under cloudy skies and ended up getting rained on a bit early on. For the first time since the adventure started, coming from the opposite direction, we ran into Danube river cruise cyclists. There were many groups and we figure there were a good 75 if not more of them. Good on them.
We stopped a few times to look at remains of Roman built forts right on the Danube. While the first fort we saw is out in the middle of nowhere, the second fort was built where 3 homes now exist. There is even a big chunk of fort masonry in front of one of the home. Would that even be possible to build under those conditions in Canada.

I’ve finally translated a sign that I have seen everywhere in Hungary. See below.
We pushed through the industrial sector of Budapest with determination and eventually got within sight of the Castle District. We were hoping that we could stop at a café and enjoy the view but no cafés near the waterfront. We would have to go up to streets near the Buda Castle. Alas, no nice cafés and difficult navigating through construction and road closure, we ended up at Burger King.
We got to cycle on Margaret Island. It was fun getting there and it was easy relaxing cycling that fully made up for the industrial bit earlier. A crazy jogger yelled at us but that is a story for another time.

We carried on towards Érd over various types of surfaces (see Hélène’s video).
Tomorrow is the start of the “Tour of Hungary 2025” with Day One being Budapest to Gyor - 210 kms. Their route comes through Érd, so we might be in our second bike race this week.
Tomorrow we head to Székesfehérvár, Hungary. Maybe we will find a nice waterfront café this time.
Dommage que vous n'avez pas voyagé du côté du parlement à Budapest car il y a beaucoup de petits cafés.
ReplyDeleteok bonne chose à savoir si jamais on retourne à Budapest. Nous avons seulement passé rapidement sans passer la nuit.
