Day 19 - Strasbourg

Total so far 1013.30 km

Today was our second no bike day. We slept in a bit but finally made it out at 10:30 ish.  Our hotel is only a couple of 100 meters from the tram(way) stop at Montagne Verte. After buying a round trip pass, a kind gentleman on the tram told us we had to validate the ticket before getting on the tram. At the next stop, Hélène dashed out to validate the tickets and got back in. Our scheduled stop is "Homme de Fer".

Once off the tram, it took a few minutes to orient ourselves and head towards the Strasbourg Cathedral. We missed the cut off time to enter and made plans to return in the afternoon. There were a lot of families in the square near the Cathedral and we found out this was the last week of the French school 2 week vacation.

We regrouped by going for coffee and pastries. We decided to wander about aimlessly and that was kind of fun. So many very old buildings, narrow streets, ultra expensive stores and stores that sell "Spice bread and spice bread cookies" 🙂

From a distance, we heard a loud "I like your T-shirt" and I recognized English with that Québécois accent. They were 2 couples from Montreal and one of the couples was originally from this area. I also got many other English comments and people were surprised when I replied in French.

By 12:45, we were back in line for the Strasbourg Cathedral. This Cathedral is not nearly as big as the one in Cologne but it is nevertheless breathtaking. The stained glass, the pulpit, the organ and the astronomical clock are incredibly beautiful.

We took Le Petit Train ride through the Petite France neighborhood. Watch this video by Dramatically Expatic that does a great job of showing you Strasbourg.

After the train we walked about more, exploring little alleys away from the larger tourist crowds. We found a nice Winstub Le Clou that serves Alsacian Specialties.

Our carefree day as tourists was now over. We went grocery shopping and headed home on the tram.

It was a very relaxing day under a warm sun and cloudless sky.

We wished there would have been an adult version of this contraption.

Tomorrow we head to Neuf-Brisach.
