Video of the dayEurope Day 18

We are safe and secure in Strasbourg for the next 2 nights.

We had a lovely stay in Seltz. We had hoped for an early start this morning but could not get breakfast until 8:30. For the first time on this trip, we left in there rain. It was still relatively warm 14°C and a light rain. It was actually fairly nice.

We rode from village (commune) to commune and these came up every 4 km or so. A lot of the communes had names ending in "...heim", somewhat similar to what we had seen in Germany.

As we neared Strasbourg, we rode on a bike trail named "La Piste des Forts" an 85 km trail that circles Strasbourg. These forts were built by Germany after the 1870 war to protect Strasbourg. We rode the portion that goes through the Robertsau forest. While we did not see forts from the 1870s, we did come across pillboxes that might have been part of the French built Maginot line, built as protection from Germany in the 1930s. This would need to be verified.

We hit the calculated "1,000 km". I say calculated because we do not have an odometer that could record from day 1. We just add the RideWithGPS distance we get at end of each day. We have only had 1 day of rest yet we feel great. No aches or pains whatsoever. Bikes are getting dusty but a couple hours of a massive downpour should fix that!
Our first 1,000 km for this trip

Tomorrow we will not use bikes. We plan to tour Strasburg using the tram and walking.

The destination for the day after is Colmar.

That's all for today
