Video of the day: Europe Day 52We are safe and secure in Mohács, Hungary.
We left for today’s ride at 07:55 am. Seems we can get an early start when we want to. Today being Saturday, the traffic was light and we had no issues getting out of town.
Now that we are following mostly the Sultans Trail we find that we get to cycle a lot more dirt and gravel paths. That’s fine when it has not/is not raining but it would be pretty challenging if everything was wet. Let’s hope we never find out.
We went through quite a few villages and found that many of them have abandoned homes or homes in a serious state of disrepair. There was a surprise when we discovered a huge church in a not so big village. There might be a really good explanation for that and is something we want to research when we get home. All these villages are serviced by what appears to be local transit.
We finally made it to Mohács. We were looking for a place to have lunch but all we could easily find was an ice cream and pastry place. We pivoted. We got groceries done at the local SPAR, chased a parade led by a band, checked out the renovated former silk factory and made it to our stop for the night.
On the advice of our land lady, we made our way down to the Danube and partake in the
Feast of St. John of Nepomuki. We there for the 8:00pm Blessing of the boatmen on the Danube. Nothing happened that we could see. We called it a night at about 9:10.
We did take a picture of the renovated silk factory.
