61.2 km - Total so far 2,496.60 km - Route pedalled. Relive Video (with pictures)
Video of the day: Europe Day 46We are safe and secure at the Wellness Centre, Patince, Slovakia.
It was easy getting back on EuroVélo 6 this morning because the hotel was a mere 300 metres away. It was also very quiet with little or no traffic at 9 am. We later discovered that most of Györ was at the huge flea market on the edge of town.
Pretty easy ride today with little or no elevation and we maintained a pretty good average speed. Things got exciting when at Komárno, we found ourselves in the middle of a bicycle time trial race on the dyke.
In a time trial, cyclists get individual starts at a set interval (usually a minute apart) and try to cover a distance (today 15 kms) as quickly as possible. It’s a race against the clock. We were told to stay on the far left of the course and pedal. We could hear the riders as they closed in on us and then just blow by as if we were standing still. They had to be going near 40 if not 45 kph. We did 10 kms of the time trial course.
We stopped at the remains of a Roman fort near Iza as well as a rebuilt Roman watchtower. See ReLive.
Once at the Wellness Centre and settled, we went to the pool/mini indoor water park and relaxed. We got “half board” at the hotel. New term to me that refers to breakfast and one other meal included in the price.
