72.3 km - Total so far 2,357.1 km - Route pedalled. Relive Video (with pictures)
Video of the day: Europe Day 44We are safe and secure in Bratislava, Slovakia.
We rode from the apartment to the start point of the Sultans Trail at the St-Stephen’s Cathedral. From there we crossed back over the Danube towards Bratislava 72 kms away.
It was another one of those days where we did a lot of Danube shoreline with little to see and turn inland and ride a dyke with again not much to see.
At about km 50, we stopped for lunch. Small village but it had 2 gates and remnants of the wall that encircled the village. From there it was a short 20 kms to Bratislava.
Going up a steep bridge access ramp I had difficulty shifting and my chain jammed. I checked for damage but all looked good. About 2 kms away, my derailleur got caught in my wheel and snapped. We were 600 meters from our stop for the night. Suffice to say that was not a welcome incident. I had the parts needed for replacing the broken part but I lack the expertise and the patience to properly set the derailleur and doing it on the road with a YouTube video did not appeal to me.
The wheel would not turn |
With some help we found a bike shop that would install the spare derailleur and chain that I carried. They promised to have it done before closing but if not the bike would be ready for 10 am tomorrow.
We had a quick supper near the shop and my phone rang. My bike was ready. What a relief! I am gonna baby my derailleur until we return to Canada.
Tomorrow we head to Gyor, Hungary.
