Video of the dayEurope Day 36

We are safe and secure in Linz, Austria.

We left the pension after a nice breakfast. First business of the day was fixing the GoPro camera holder on Hélène’s bike.  The screw could not handle day after day continuous use. Thankfully we had brought spare screws gathered from other brackets.

It took about 4 kms to get to the paved bike path right next to the Danube and then just pedal.

We pulled off the path when we saw a large group of people involved in a game of sorts. It took a few minutes to realize these people were playing a game similar to curling but without the stones, the brooms or the ice. Its called Bavarian curling and can be played year round.

The stones are replaced by a large metal disk with a handle. You grab the handle and start swinging the disk forwards and backwards and let it go. It slides easily over asphalt to the house at the far end. Some people are better at sliding the disk but as long as you can get it to the house its all good.

After that learning experience it was on the bike trail along the Danube right to Linz. There weren’t any cute little Austrian Villages to rave about.

Linz is a fairly big city and today being a holiday we encountered a lot of people walking about making it difficult to share the path with them. This being a holiday, we opted to use the less busy major city streets which got us to the hotel without too much stress.

We just went for a walk to the local dépanneur and it felt like a warm summer evening outside.

Tomorrow we are off the bikes and going to the Mauthousen Memorial.
