NOTE: Relive videos will now include pictures

We are safe and sound in Kleve, Germany at Frans (Friends On Bikes (FOB) host. We have a huge room with a view overlooking a castle. As I write the blog, I can hear Franz getting supper ready. Tonight is home cooked lasagna.

We left Jet's shortly after 9 o'clock and it was pretty nippy. Pedaling, a loaded touring bike warms up the blood pretty quickly. The ride to Arnhem was very nice with winding fietspad (bike path) in large treed parks. We got to enjoy our first serious climb of 9% grade over a distance of 750m.

As we neared Arnhem, we stumbled on war relics. There is one in the Relive video. I had to make a difficult decision when I saw the sign for the Airbornemuseum, turn left for the museum or right towards Istanbul. Next year the museum.

We crossed the Nederrijn (Lower Rhine) on the Nelson Mandela bridge. We stopped for pictures at the John Frost bridge

The afternoon consisted of grocery shopping, a picnic, hot chocolate, planning our stays for the next 2 nights and taking multiple ferries over the Lower Rhine.

We did not see a Welcome to Germany sign. We assumed we were in Germany when we saw a sign warning people to keep their dog on a leash and the language appeared to not be Dutch.

We got to Kleve, looking forward to a home cooked lasagna and a warm bed. Frans lasagna did not disappoint.

We could not find accommodations for tomorrow within our 60 km goal. So we have 89 km to do tomorrow.

Coffee in Kleve
